Opioids are a class of drug used to reduce pain. While they can be effective when used as prescribed, they are highly addictive and have often been abused by users. There are several medications available for treating opioid use disorder such as buprenorphine and methadone. However, these medications are heavily underutilized, largely due to the under-supply of providers trained and willing to prescribe the medications.
