North Carolina Health Professions Data System (HPDS), Program on Health Workforce Research and Policy, Sheps Center, UNC-CH
Housed within the Program on Health Workforce Research and Policy at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, the North Carolina Health Professions Data System (HPDS) collects and disseminates descriptive data on 19 categories of licensed health professionals in North Carolina. Established in the 1970s, this work is done in cooperation with the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers Program (AHEC), and the state’s independent health professional licensing boards. Historically published in an annual data book, data are now published annually in a new data visualization tool with downloadable maps and data. The data are used in analyses, presentations and reports, and have been used by stakeholders such as the University of North Carolina General Administration, the NC Community College System and the NC General Assembly. Data are available through a data request process.
