Self-Reported Impacts One Year After a Brief Health Equity/Implicit Bias Course for Academic Clinicians

Implicit bias among healthcare professionals is one of many factors contributing to disparities in healthcare and health outcomes. Similar to the general population, clinicians may hold unconscious attitudes or stereotypes related to race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, weight, mental illness, and other characteristics, which can influence communication, treatment decisions, and quality of care. Although implicit bias education has been incorporated into some medical school curricula and clinical training programs, evidence regarding the most effective content, evaluation strategies, and impact on clinical practice remains limited.

In this article, researchers revisited a sample of primary care clinical faculty one year after they completed a brief online course to examine its impact on their teaching and clinical practice.
