Analyzing School-Based Behavioral Health Services Across HRSA-Defined Regions in the United States

The United States is facing a growing youth mental health crisis, with increasing rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality among children and adolescents. At the same time, shortages of behavioral health providers and other barriers to care limit access to needed services. School-based behavioral health (SBBH) programs have emerged as a promising strategy to improve access by delivering mental health services directly within educational settings.

This article examines the availability and delivery of Tier-3 school-based behavioral health services across the United States, including service modality, provider composition, funding sources, and implementation challenges across Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) regions.
