Katie Gaul directs the South Carolina Office for Healthcare Workforce (SCOHW), a division of the South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (SC AHEC). She oversees SCOHW’s research and service portfolio, supports the efforts of SC AHEC, and helps stakeholders across the state with their healthcare workforce data needs. Her work focuses on tracking and describing South Carolina’s healthcare workforce in a way that is grounded in data, relevant to policy, and accessible to a wide audience.

Prior to this role, Katie was a senior policy analyst at the National Governors Association and a research associate with the health workforce and rural health research programs at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC Chapel Hill. She also served as deputy director of the HRSA-funded Health Workforce Technical Assistance Center based at the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the University of Albany, SUNY. Her expertise is built from assisting in the development of state health workforce data systems in multiple states; supporting state and national projects related to health workforce education, practice, and policy; and connecting researchers, policy makers, and others to timely and objective health workforce data and information.
